Paramount Plus Australia: Price, content, features, and more

Are you in search of a family-friendly subscription service? Paramount Plus could be the solution.

There are many classic series and movies, new shows, shows for kids, reality shows, and live sports.

But will that be sufficient to outperform its rivals? All the details are below.

What is Paramount Plus?

The Paramount Plus streaming service is a subscription offering from ViacomCBS. It features content from BET, CBS, Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, The Smithsonian Channel, and MTV, among other networks. You’ll also receive 24-hour news and next-day coverage of shows like “Face the Nation” and  “60 Minutes.”

Paramount’s new releases and back catalogue are also covered. Aside from the classics, the library also has exclusive Paramount Plus productions.

If you upgrade to the Premium package, you can watch your local CBS affiliate in real time.

How Much is Paramount Plus

How Much is Paramount Plus?

Paramount Plus has two pricing tiers: the $5/month Essential plan (or $50/year) with advertisements and the $10/month Premium plan (or $100/year) without ads.

However, the Essential and Premium plans will now cost $6 and $12 per month starting on June 27. The Essential package will continue to provide the same features as before, but the new Premium subscription will grant access to all of Showtime’s programming.

All Paramount Plus subscriptions include access to all on-demand content and certain live sports. However, the Essential plan’s on-demand streaming is prone to ad interruptions.

In contrast, the Premium package provides commercial-free on-demand streaming and live broadcasts from your local CBS network. However, due to the live nature of CBS streaming, commercials will still air at regular intervals.

Subscriptions to Paramount Plus Premium and Essential are available online. The Premium Plan may also be added as a channel in Apple TV and Amazon Prime Video.

You can use your cable company’s login information to avoid shelling out more cash for Paramount Plus to access the CBS app or website. This provides fewer extras than Paramount Plus, but it does let you watch the CBS series online.

Is Paramount Plus Merging With Showtime?

Paramount Global announced a merger between Paramount Plus and Showtime in May 2023. Content from both sites will be available to members when the merger is finalised on June 27.

Even though Paramount Plus offers a cheap package with Showtime, this partnership will serve the same purpose. However, Showtime will now come with Paramount Plus’ highest tier by default rather than as an add-on package. In the meantime, the more affordable Paramount Plus Essential package will continue to provide just Paramount Plus, minus Showtime’s collection.

Paramount Plus with Showtime will be available for $12/month or $120/year. The current Paramount Plus Premium plan, which costs $10 per month, will be discontinued and replaced with this new option. The fee for existing members will rise by $2, beginning with the payment cycle beginning on or after July 27.

This comes amid similar moves by other digital platforms, such as Discovery Plus and HBO Max, merging content under the renamed Max streaming service.  Bob Iger, Disney CEO, also announced a “one-app experience” allowing users to watch Disney Plus and Hulu content in one app.

Is Paramount Plus Included With Walmart+

Is Paramount Plus Included With Walmart+?

Paramount Plus Essential is included at no additional cost with Walmart+ subscriptions. Walmart+ is an e-commerce platform meant to rival Amazon Prime. The price is $98 per year or $13 monthly.

Subscribers to Walmart+ get Paramount Plus and other benefits, such as free delivery and gas price reductions. For more information about Walmart+, see our in-depth guide.

Can You Bundle Paramount Plus With Showtime?

For $12/month or $120/year, Paramount Plus subscribers may get their hands on a package including their Premium plan and Showtime. With this package, you may access both streaming services’ libraries in one location, the Paramount Plus app.

This package will replace the Premium plan from Paramount Plus beginning on June 27. Existing Premium subscribers will get access to Showtime programming starting with the following billing cycle after July 27 at a price increase of $2 per month.

A subscription to Showtime gives you access to the entire premium cable network’s programs, including fan favourites like “Dexter,” “The First Lady,” and “The Man Who Fell to Earth.”

Is There a Free Trial Available for Paramount Plus

Is There a Free Trial Available for Paramount Plus?

All new members may enjoy seven days of Paramount Plus at no cost. Students at accredited universities in the United States are eligible for a 25% discount on Paramount Plus. Only the month-to-month ad-supported package is eligible for this discount. The discount is available to students for four years of college.

Can You Watch Live Sports on Paramount Plus?

Yes. Live CBS sports broadcasts are available on Paramount Plus. Live sports events, such as the UEFA Champions League, are available on both the Premium and Essential tiers, as are local NFL games on CBS.

However, the Premium subscription must watch all the live sports on the site, including NCAA basketball (which includes March Madness), The Masters, SEC football, MMA and PGA Tour.

What Movies and Shows Can I Watch on Paramount Plus

What Movies and Shows Can I Watch on Paramount Plus?

Classic and current shows from networks including Comedy Central, Nickelodeon, MTV, BET, CBS and Paramount Pictures are available on Paramount Plus. Live broadcasts of your regional CBS station are also included in the Premium package.

Paramount Plus provides on-demand access to currently broadcast CBS episodes the day after they appear on TV, so you can watch shows like “NCIS,” “Ghosts,” and “Survivor,” even if you don’t have cable.

In addition to Paramount’s older films and television shows, such as “Top Gun,” and “Indiana Jones”  the streaming service also features new releases, such as “Smile” and “Scream 6” within 30 to 45 days of their theatrical release.

Some of the most well-known series produced by Paramount Plus include “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds,” “Halo,” “Yellowstone: 1883,” “RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars,” and “1923,” while more recent releases include “Picard,” “Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies,” and “Rabbit Hole.”

Paramount Plus Add-Ons and Content

You can supplement subscriptions to Paramount+ with a wide range of extra features and services. Shows like “School Spirits,” “Mayor of Kingstown: Season 2,” “Teen Wolf: The Movie,” “Rabbit Hole,” “The Challenge: World Championship,” and “Are You the One?”  are just a few of the excellent offerings on Paramount Plus.

In addition, all of Nickelodeon’s animated shows, including Dora the Explorer, Strawberry Shortcake, SpongeBob SquarePants, Paw Petrol, Are you afraid of the Dark, and CatDog, will be available on the service.

CBS provides coverage of live sporting events through Paramount Plus. Unlike on-demand sports shows and live sports news, the channel promises to broadcast over a thousand actual sporting events annually.

Football fans may watch college games on SEC channels, NFL games on CBS stations, and excellent programs like “Inside the NFL” on Paramount Plus. The sports covered by the service are not limited to football.

Golf and basketball fans may tune in to live coverage of The Masters, the PGA Championship, and the PGA Tour. The NCAA men’s basketball tournament, known as March Madness, is also shown on channels.

For soccer fans in the United States, Paramount Plus is a significant perk since it is the only streaming service that broadcasts all UEFA professional league games in English. Paramount Plus subscribers may watch live games and CBS Sports HQ, a 24/7 channel dedicated to sports coverage.

Does Paramount Plus Have a Free Trial?

There is a free 7-day trial available for new users of Paramount Plus. If you need assistance signing up for Paramount Plus, we have a detailed guide to walk you through the process.

What Programs Are on Paramount Plus in Australia

What Programs Are on Paramount Plus in Australia?

Thousands of television episodes and dozens of films are available to stream on Paramount Plus. Paramount Pictures’ programming is shown alongside the network’s other cable channels and networks, including MTV, Comedy Central, Nick Jr., Nickelodeon, the Smithsonian Channel and Showtime.

Popular shows like Survivor US and Yellowjackets are available, along with NCIS, South Park, Tulsa King, Halo, The Offer, Mayor of Kingstown, All-Star Shore, and the 1883 and 1923 prequels to Yellowstone.

While the catalogue is less than those of services like Netflix, there is still enough to keep you interested. Movies like “Wolf Pack” and “Last King of the Cross” are examples of recent releases.

The whole Star Trek canon, from Star Trek: Discovery through Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, can be found on Paramount Plus. There is a plethora of media aimed towards children, such as new iterations of Rugrats and iCarly.

Paramount Plus Football Streaming

Paramount Plus is the spiritual epicentre of Australian football. Paramount Plus is the permanent home of the A-League and A-League Women and the Socceroos and Matildas (except for the World Cup and Olympics). Among the many other competitions shown are the AFC Champions League and the English FA Cup.

In addition to being broadcast on Paramount Plus, a few A-League matches are shown live and free every week on 10 Bold. Typically, these are the Saturday 7:45 p.m. and Sunday 3 p.m. AEDT games. The A-League Women’s season will be shown live on 10 Play.

Most matches involving the Socceroos and Matildas are broadcast simultaneously on free-to-air television on the 10 Network. They also stream on 10 Play and Paramount Plus.

Can You Watch Live Sports on Paramount Plus?

You can watch live sports on Paramount Plus. There are a lot of them.

The NFL stands out as the most prominent. This does not imply that every NFL game is available on Paramount Plus; it is not. It also doesn’t support viewing NFL games from other markets.  (and no, we’re not referring to Sunday Ticket.) If you subscribe to either of Paramount’s Plus packages, you may watch the regional game broadcast by your local CBS station online.

Customers on the $5/month Essential plan (including ads in the on-demand material) are disconnected as soon as the game ends. Consequently, a Premium membership is required to participate in any after-match activities.

Futbol, the other kind of football, is also widely covered on Paramount Plus. In particular, it is (often) included in the Paramount+ Premium package.

The UEFA Champions League is the most prominent of these competitions since it annually features the greatest club clubs in Europe. Paramount Plus’s subscriptions include Champions League coverage, so you may choose whichever works best for you.

Then there’s the Europa League, which features the best clubs that couldn’t advance to the Champions League. Other professional leagues include the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) in the United States, the Serie A in Italy, the Brasileiro in Brazil, the Scottish Professional Football League, the CONCACAF Nation’s League, and numerous World Cup qualifiers. All of it requires the more costly Premium plan.

Sadly, no 4K live sports are included in any of these packages. It’s hardly surprising that this is the case since you must make these features available on most streaming platforms. But that would be lovely to see eventually.

What Features Does Paramount+ Have

What Features Does Paramount+ Have?

Paramount Plus has several features that make streaming more better. Some examples of these features are:

  • Multiple profiles: this feature enables users to set up individual profiles for each family member.
  • Offline viewing: Users may download their favourite Paramount Plus episodes and movies offline. A commercial-free US Paramount Plus package costs $10 per month, while the $5 commercial-reduced plan is of great value.
  • Parental controls allow guardians to limit their children’s access to inappropriate material.
  • Device and smart TV compatibility: Paramount+ works with many popular streaming devices and smart TVs, such as Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, Chromecast, Android TV, and many more.
  • Personalised recommendations: The service tailors its suggestions for programs available on Paramount Plus to the individual user, considering watching habits and tastes.
  • Live TV: Users may watch live programming from networks including BET, CBS, MTV, and  Comedy Central, as well as current events and sporting events.
  • Ad-free options and Ad-supported: Paramount Plus provides both ad-free and ad-supported alternatives, with the former needing a more expensive membership.
  • Multi-language support: The service caters to users of various linguistic backgrounds by supporting Spanish, Portuguese, and English.

Is Paramount+ Worth It?

According to our analysis, Paramount Plus is indeed worthwhile. While Paramount Plus on Xbox is cheaper than both Netflix and Hulu, it is limited to content from Paramount Global brands and cannot be used to watch any other original series or movies. You should subscribe to Paramount+ if you appreciate The Challenge, SpongeBob SquarePants, Survivor, or Star Trek.

In addition, to live sports and news, the service also features a variety of original content and popular TV episodes and films from ViacomCBS networks, including Comedy Central, CBS, BET, and MTV. Features like offline watching, individualised suggestions, and parental controls are also available.

Paramount+’s viewership has increased with the launch of its original programming. During your seven-day free trial of Paramount Plus, you’ll have enough time to consider many factors, such as which programs are available on the service and how to get a subscription at no cost. To start, visit the Paramount Plus homepage and choose the Try It Free button.

After reading the review of the Paramount Plus app, you may watch your chosen content on your selected device whenever and wherever you choose. Read our analysis of Paramount Plus’s many subscription options, then select the one that best suits your needs.

Despite its many advantages, some users have complaints about Paramount Plus. User complaints with Paramount Plus include poor streaming quality, annoying commercials, and dim displays.

What Devices Can I Use With Paramount Plus

What Devices Can I Use With Paramount Plus?

The Paramount Plus service is compatible with many different platforms. There are many more on the list, but here are a few:

  • Mac and PC
  • Android and iOS devices
  • LG smart TVs
  • Samsung smart TVs
  • Chromecast
  • Apple TV
  • Fetch TV
  • Android and Google TV
  • Amazon Fire TV
  • Telstra TV

Check out our how-to manual for more information on installing Paramount Plus on any device.

Subscribing to Paramount Plus via the Prime Video Channels catalogue is one workaround. Stream Paramount Plus using the Prime Video app on any supported device, including gaming consoles.

The introduction of Paramount Plus is not so much the debut of a revolutionary new streaming service as it is the mild rebranding of a current service. Its most attractive content is likely already familiar to its subscribers: reruns of old network series and 10 All Access originals. We recommend giving it a free week’s trial run if you like old TV and are intrigued by the prospect of future original series.

Outbyte Driver Updater

Several original and exclusive films and television series are scheduled to premiere later this year and in subsequent years on Paramount Plus. Potential members may be most interested in the service because of the unique content it promises in the future, such as the Kelsey Grammer-starring Frasier remake, the Yellowstone series Y: 1883, and the Halo TV series.

Paramount Plus has been anticipated for some time, and the lack of any of these bigger-draw films at launch is disappointing, particularly in light of Disney Plus’s successful launch, which included significant hits like The Mandalorian.

Are there any alternatives to Paramount Plus? Two new programs from Nickelodeon: iCarly and Kamp Koral, the prequel to SpongeBob SquarePants.

Paramount Plus Subscription Options:

1-month plan – $4.99 per month ($4.99 total cost)

Many exclusive programs are available to new members immediately, so they may tide them over until the more recent original programming becomes available. However, several of the most popular American series, such as the new adaptation of The Stand, Star Trek: Picard, Star Trek: Discovery, and the latest CBS network drama Clarice, are not available in this edition.

Well, what about the price tag? Paramount Plus only has a single tier in Australia, with a monthly fee of AU$ 8.99 and a yearly fee of AU$ 89.99. A more affordable ad-supported tier is available in the United States; nevertheless, we’re pleased to announce that our ad-free standard experience is less expensive than the premium tier available in the United States and its territories.

However, this is probably due more to the limited material available in the Australian edition than the service’s actual cost.

So far, our overall impression of Paramount Plus as a streaming service is sufficient rather than exceptional. However, this may change once the larger originals become available.

Paramount Plus Price and Release Date

Paramount Plus Price and Release Date

On August 11, 2021, under its present name, Paramount Plus debuted in Australia with a single subscription tier. The old application will upgrade to the newer Paramount Plus app on all platforms, and the current 10 All Access subscribers will have their memberships immediately changed.

After a free trial week, Australians may subscribe for AU$ 8.99 monthly or AU$ 89.99 for the whole year. The yearly plan costs AU$ 7.49 monthly, saving you 15% off the monthly rate.

Unfortunately, the number of Australian devices compatible with the Paramount Plus application is far fewer than those that can use the app in the United States and Canada.

Owners of Samsung and LG TVs and those with gaming consoles must purchase one of the devices mentioned above to watch the service.

Paramount Plus App Design and UI

There’s no need to start from scratch. Like its contemporaries, Amazon Prime Video, Netflix, Stan, and Binge, the Paramount Plus app provides a straightforward, user-friendly layout.

When you open the app on your mobile device, you’ll see four fixed tabs down the bottom of the screen: Home, Search, Live TV, and More. These tabs allow you to access your account information and features like parental controls and downloaded content.

When using the TV app, the categories are displayed on the left side of your screen, whereas in a browser window, they are located at the top of the page, just below the Paramount Plus logo.

Comedy Central, Showtime, Nickelodeon, the Smithsonian Channel, and MTV are among the “brands” on the Paramount Plus home screen carousel in standard and premium packages.

The brand logo arrangement is reminiscent of the Disney Plus home page, and similarly, selecting a logo will lead you to all of that network’s programming.

If you keep scrolling down the main menu, you’ll see rows of videos categorised under categories like “Originals and Exclusives,” “Kids’ Favorites,” “Comedy,” “Reality,” etc. The simplest way to keep tabs on the TV series and movies you’re watching is to add them to the Keep Watching area; more about that in a moment.

However, users can find most of Paramount Plus’s material in two distinct locations: the Shows section and the Movies section. You can easily observe how limited the movie collection is by simply browsing each of them by category. While there are 16 movies to choose from in the Horror category, are only 13 in the Science Fiction sector.

While movie listings often include a synopsis and language/subtitle choices, TV program listings typically provide episodes organised by season.

The next tab, “Live TV,” is… even less than you’d anticipate. The news on CBSN is mainly focused on the United States. Although not included at launch, Paramount Plus may eventually provide Australian and worldwide sports programming.

Oddly, you can’t add anything to a “watchlist.” Users expecting a feature common to most streaming applications may be disappointed by this exclusion.

An important feature that might be included in a future app update; however, it has yet to be introduced to the United States version of Paramount Plus after many months of waiting is concerning. The program lacks user profiles, meaning every person in your home must use the same login information.

Paramount Plus on Amazon Prime Video

Australians may now subscribe to a Paramount Plus channel using Amazon Prime Video instead of the Paramount Plus app. Users may now add Paramount Plus as an optional subscription inside the Prime Video app, eliminating the need to sign up for two separate services.

And since Amazon’s Prime Video interface is much better, viewers can add Paramount’s programs to their watch list if they opt to watch Paramount Plus through Prime Video.

The Paramount Plus channel on Amazon Prime Video costs AU$8.99 a month following a trial period of seven days, which is identical to the standalone version. However, prepaying for a year at a reduced price is impossible.

Offline Content and Streaming Quality

Offline Content and Streaming Quality

You may download movies and TV episodes in Standard and High Definition from the app’s settings to enjoy your content without an internet connection.

However, unlike the US version of Paramount Plus, which delivers exclusive programming at 4K resolution, the Australian edition of the app is restricted to Full HD streaming quality.

Unsurprisingly, it’s disheartening that planned blockbuster programs won’t be available in 4K in Australia while being shown in that format elsewhere. This includes the Yellowstone spin-off 1883 and the Halo live-action series.

This applies to recently released exclusives such as Dexter: New Blood and The Mayor of Kingstown. We must understand why Australians can’t upgrade to a higher-priced 4K tier.

The good news is that English Audio Description is available on specific films, and closed captioning is accessible in every area of the site.

Paramount Plus Content: Shows and Movies

You may find most of Paramount Plus’s content on-demand (movies and TV series) or in real-time (news). Its most significant selling point is the vast library of past and current network series on demand.

This includes shows like Cheers, Blue Bloods, three versions of NCIS, four distinct versions of CSI, Hawaii Five-0 (the new and original versions), Survivor, The Twilight Zone (the original and new iteration), and The Real World.

Paramount Plus Originals is undeniably the service’s weak point, falling short of the standards set by Netflix and others.

Paramount Plus Originals include The Real World: New York, SpongeBob SquarePants movie and Kamp Koral, and For Heaven’s Sake, a series in the vein of American Vandals.

The former is great for families but won’t satisfy individuals looking for the fascinating binge-worthy exclusive programming that most other streaming services produce to attract new customers.

However, newcomers still have the opportunity to devour the earlier 10 All Access Originals, which have been renamed as Paramount Plus Originals and are available on the service. Such blockbuster titles as “Why Women Kill” and “The Good Fight” are included.

Surprisingly, however, much of what is available on Paramount Plus in the United States isn’t available in Australia.

That’s probably due to regional licensing restrictions, given that some episodes are accessible for streaming on other services. However, it’s still upsetting all the same. Paramount Plus has a minimal number of exclusives in Australia.

In any case, Paramount Plus’s main selling point is the material it promises to release in the future, which raises the question: why start now when this A-list blockbuster stuff is incomplete and not ready to go?

The Halo series, the two Yellowstone spin-offs, the Frasier reboot, the western drama 6666, the reboot of The Man Who Fell to Earth, the Flashdance series, the spin-off of Criminal Minds, a new Beavis and Butthead film, and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds are all yet to come.

Many individuals are interested in Paramount Plus because of the promise of having access to major Paramount blockbusters soon after their theatrical debut. Some recent theatrical releases in the United States will be available on Paramount Plus immediately after their initial release in theatres, as was previously reported.

All of these films, except for Top Gun: Maverick and  Mission: Impossible 7 (pushed back to 2023), are expected to be available on the streaming service by 45 days after their theatrical debut. This will likely be a method used to attract new customers, but the Australian app version needs to take advantage of this.

For example, the sequel to “A Quiet Place” was released in Australia in May but can’t be found on Paramount Plus. The most prominent new release film accessible on the Australian service appears to be the widely panned Mark Wahlberg action film Infinite, which is not likely to entice many new subscribers.

The current movie selection could be more extensive. Almost everyone has seen or owns the Indiana Jones films, and a handful of the Mission: Impossible films are also already popular.

Best Alternatives for Paramount Plus

Best Alternatives for Paramount Plus

As an alternative to Paramount Plus, we’ve compiled a list of several fantastic resources that provide similar material. They all provide a wealth of materials for relatively low monthly fees and excellent service.

1. Hulu

Hulu is an established service that provides a wide variety of programming available to subscribers. Even ViacomCBS networks, such as MTV and CBS, provide content to it. You may subscribe to Hulu for either $5.99 or $11.99 per month, depending on whether you want to watch with or without ads. Hulu with Live TV is also available but costs $64.99 per month.

In addition to several sports channels, the Live TV package provides access to the Smithsonian Channel and CBS. Hulu provides various materials from various producers and some excellent original productions. If you haven’t already, sign up for a subscription since it’s fantastic.

2. Netflix

Netflix is the most well-known streaming service since it is accessible to users all over the globe. Three different subscription tiers are available for the service, with the higher tiers allowing more streams for each account and HD and Ultra HD video.

The most basic plan is $8.99 per month and has no support for HD or Ultra HD streams or resolutions. The priciest Premium plan, which allows four streams simultaneously and has the highest quality video, costs $17.99 monthly.

Some of your favourite shows may already be available on Netflix since the streaming service borrows material from CBS alongside other networks owned by ViacomCBS. In addition, Netflix boasts an extensive library of original programming and content from many studios.

3. Disney Plus

Since its launch less than 1 1/2 years ago, Disney Plus has been gradually rolling out in other international markets. Star Wars, Marvel, Pixar, Disney Channel material, National Geographic, and critically acclaimed originals like WandaVision and The Mandalorian are all available on Disney Plus, which costs $7.99 monthly or $79.99 yearly.

The great thing with this streaming service is that all Disney content eventually ends up here, even first-run blockbusters like Mulan. Star, the company’s international division, delivers exclusive programming to audiences outside the United States. What they provide falls within the purview of Hulu in the United States, but it is still a great addition.

4. Peacock

Peacock is from NBC, a competitor network with some excellent features. Peacock has a free tier to start. Only a tiny portion of the service’s features are accessible with it, but having it is still really great.

Additional material, including original programming, is available in the higher-priced Premium & Premium Plus tiers for $4.99 and $9.99 monthly, respectively. It’s an excellent service that provides access to various materials at a reasonable fee.

5. Discovery Plus

Discovery Plus is another service you should be looking into. Launched just a few months You may also want to check out Discovery Plus. Discovery Plus, which has only been available for a short while, offers two different monthly membership options: $4.99 monthly for an ad-supported option and $6.99 monthly for the ad-free edition. The service has various original programming and programming from networks including HGTV, Discovery Channel, TLC, Food Network, Animal Planet, Magnolia Network, and ID.

If you like programming from the channels mentioned above—and, honestly, who doesn’t want to catch an episode of House Hunters—then you’ll adore this service.

6. ESPN+

The sole reason we included ESPN+ is because it provides access to so much sports-related material. Many popular sports and events, such as UFC, are available exclusively via the service. Watch soccer, NFL, and other live events on Paramount Plus.

If nothing else, ESPN+ will provide you access to various sporting events. A yearly membership costs $59.99 or $5.99 each month.

However, for the same monthly price of $12.99, you can get ad-free Hulu by bundling Disney Plus with Hulu and ESPN+. The monthly cost of Hulu Premium rises to $18.99, while the combined cost of Hulu and Live TV is $72. These packages are an excellent option if you’re trying to save money without sacrificing convenience.

Paramount Plus is a neat service, but it is clear that it has comparable alternatives. All of the services mentioned above are optional, after all. If you are still deciding whether to watch a specific show through streaming, you can explore alternative options and discover even more great programming.
