About Lindsay Fox

Lindsay Fox is a prominent Australian businessman whose path to success has – to say the least – not been traditional.

Far from displaying academic brilliance at a prestigious university or a business school, Fox was asked to leave Melbourne High School in year ten at the age of just 16 due to his not being interested in learning. While he might not have formal educational qualifications, he had an entrepreneurial spirit, which kicked in three years later when he launched the logistics company Linfox after three years of working as a truck driver.

Over the decades, Fox tirelessly built his empire, ultimately founding Linfox, one of the largest privately-owned logistics companies in the Asia-Pacific region. Under his visionary leadership, Linfox expanded its operations across multiple industries, including transportation, warehousing and supply chain solutions, serving a wide spectrum of clients.

Ultimately, Fox’s story is a testament to the power of determination, innovation and a strong work ethic, which he has used to good effect to earn a well-deserved place among Australia’s most influential and respected business leaders.

How Did Lindsay Fox accrue his wealth?

Lindsay Fox enjoys a substantial net worth, primarily attributed to his involvement in the transportation and logistics industry. Much of his wealth comes from Linfox, the logistics and transportation company he founded in 1956.

He started the company with just one truck, which he used for furniture removals. Over the decades, he expanded Linfox’s operations to become one of the largest privately owned logistics companies in the Asia-Pacific region. The company provides a wide range of services, including freight transport, warehousing and supply chain solutions.

However, Fox’s success isn’t limited to one industry. Over the years, he strategically diversified his business interests, expanding into sectors like property development, aviation and hotels. This diversification significantly contributed to his net worth while congruently making a name for himself on the Australian business landscape.

Under Fox’s leadership, Linfox embraced innovation and technology in its operations, improving efficiency and competitiveness and expanding internationally, thus making more profit.

Other Business Interests

Aside from his very successful logistics company, Fox led a consortium to buy Luna Park in St Kilda in 2005.

They paid over $7 million to secure the attraction, with the primary motivation for doing so – according to Lindsay – was nostalgia.

Awards, Recognition and Philanthropy

For his service to the community and transport industry, Fox was made an Officer of the Order of Australia in the 1992 Australia Day Honours List. He was also bestowed the Centenary Medal in 2001. Seven years later he was made a Companion of the Order of Australia.

Last year, NGV (National Gallery of Victoria) revealed that a new gallery within their complex would be called The Fox: NGV Contemporary – by way of recognition of the donation of $100 million he and his wife made.

Private Life

Fox married Paula Grace Peele back in 1959 with whom he has six children – all of whom were born before he turned 30. Unfortunately one of them, Michael, committed suicide in 1991. This led to Fox becoming a board member of the National Advisory Council on Suicide Prevention and advising the Victorian and Australian governments on youth suicide.

In his younger days, Fox was quite an accomplished AFL player. He represented St Kilda in the VFL, debuting in 1960 and playing 20 games, predominantly as a ruckman. He later went on to become the President of St Kilda Football Club in 1979.
